The Blog's Beginning

Until recently I really wondered why people have blogs. Kind of silly, I used to think. Then I started Twitter and I began to read blogs. I discovered there's lots of really interesting people out there. Lots of people that are very different from me. Lots of people that are very similar but with slightly different slants on life. It's opened a new world and I find that surprising mainly because I've been in the Internet since 1996 and I didn't think there was too much new out there.

Started out with Usenet and move to private groups after I realized the Usenet meant one was talking to the world. I don't mind talking to the world, it's just with Usenet it was like standing up in public and saying "I'm 48 years old, married with 3 grown children and I like gardening." Kind of inappropriate to the situation. With private groups I at least knew pretty much to whom I was speaking.

Then I discovered Twitter. I liked the links to blogs, current news, technology updates, all things green, some politics and just some fun, quirky stuff. So I decided that maybe blogs were OK and not just the ramblings of some self-centered bored person.

Last week a blog on tumbleweeds reminded me of a story and I decided to start writing my stories down. These are real life stories -- something that happened to me or has been orally passed down through my family.

Stories have been a big tradition in my family. Maybe they are in all families, but since I was a little girl, one of the delightful traditions of my family was sitting around the dinner table and telling stories. I have the good fortune to be the daughter of a story teller who lived to his nineties and his baby sister, who is in her nineties right now.

I'm full of stories. I hope there's enough time to get them all out.

As far as my statistics I'm a female that was born in 1948 in California. I'm married and have 3 grown children, 2 grown step-children, 4 grandchildren in my bloodline, along with Sam's (my husband) 2 grandchildren. I'm the third of six children (3 boys and 3 girls). All of us have been lucky and are still in relative good health -- I think, but that's a story in itself.

Here's some pictures of my grandchildren. The first one is of Nathan and Hailey, the next one is Cassandra (CJ) and then Martin III or Tre. These will probably be the most recent pictures because I want to write about stories of days gone by, not the present.
